Preparing Your Home for Vancouver's Rainy Season
Vancouver gets over 1,100mm of rain annually, most of it between October and March. If your home isn't ready, you'll feel it — literally.
Critical Pre-Winter Tasks
Gutter Cleaning (October) — This is non-negotiable. Clogged gutters cause water overflow that damages fascia, soffits, and foundations. Clean them before the heavy rains start.
Furnace Tune-Up (September) — Schedule this before demand peaks. A pre-season tune-up ensures efficiency, safety, and reliability through Vancouver's 6-month heating season.
Weatherproofing — Check all exterior caulking around windows, doors, and siding joints. Vancouver's rain finds every gap.
Dryer Vent Cleaning — A clogged dryer vent is a fire hazard year-round, but especially in winter when the dryer runs more frequently.
Don't Forget
- Test smoke and CO detectors
- Check crawl space for moisture
- Inspect roof for damaged shingles or moss damage
- Clear yard debris before it clogs drainage
